King Kong will swing into the Broadway Theatre for the 2018 Broadway season, after Miss Saigon’s limited engagement through January. The stage adaptation of this classic film is the brain-child of an Australian based animatronics company. Lead producer, Carmen Pavlovic, had been offered a Broadway theater in 2014, but chose to decline due to the production’s successful run in Melbourne, Australia in 2013. Now, the 20 foot tall title character will take the stage among other highly anticipated 2018 Broadway blockbusters including Frozen, and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
King Kong will feature a score by the British composer Marius de Vries and songs by Eddie Perfect. The production is written by British writer Jack Thorne-playwright behind Harry Potter and the Cursed Child- and British director, Drew McOnie, who has choreographed recent London productions of In the Heights and Jesus Christ Superstar. The story is adapted from a novelization of the screenplay of the 1933 film.
The show has not yet been cast.
