Press notes state: “Remember when you felt you could do anything, when there was still nothing to fear? Yes, things have changed a bit, haven’t they? And everyone keeps saying there’s nothing to be afraid of! Please join us to raise a toast on the 10th anniversary of the opening night of Robert’s (Matthew Broderick) under-appreciated masterpiece, Midnight in a Clearing with Moon and Stars. To recall that wonderful creative atmosphere, which we all miss so much, Nellie (Jill Eikenberry) will host this celebration at our old haunt, the Talk House (which, despite everything, remains open). Please come. We need each other.“

Every year, a new lineup of shows comes to the Great White Way, ready to dazzle and entrance audiences from all around the world. Let’s take a final look at the shows that are set to close at the beginning of January.
Juuust making it to 2017, we said goodbye to these shows on Sunday, January 1st:
Matilda the Musical:
Transferring from a still-running, Olivier Award-winning production in the West End, Matilda the Musical opened on Broadway in April of 2013. Based on the beloved novel by Roald Dahl, Matilda delighted grown-ups and children alike at the Shubert Theatre for nearly three years before closing on Sunday, January 1. Music and lyrics for Matilda the Musical were written by Tim Minchin, who also wrote the music and lyrics for the upcoming musical Groundhog Day (set to open on Broadway on April 17, 2017).
Next up at the Shubert Theatre: Hello, Dolly! is set to open on April 20, 2017.
This gut-busting musical comedy opened at the St. James Theatre in April of 2015. Something Rotten! tells the story of the fictional Bottom brothers, contemporaries and rivals of the overbearing William Shakespeare, as they struggle to make their mark on the 16th Century theatre world. This uproarious hit showed Broadway a very different side of the Bard.

This touring magic production returned to Broadway for a limited engagement on November 25, 2016.
