Looking to bring your group to something other than a standard Broadway musical this Spring? Here at Your Broadway Genius, we know that Broadway is the home to a diverse array of theatrical experiences and we want to make sure you get the chance to bring your group to some of the most powerful plays of this season as well. One of our top recommendations? From the mind of Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Paula Vogel (How I Learned to Drive) comes Indecent, a “superbly realized and remarkably powerful” (The New York Times) new drama that celebrates the power of art. An “illuminating and heartbreaking” (Time Out New York) true story of a contentious play and the artists who risked their lives to perform it, Indecent comes to Broadway following a critically acclaimed, sold-out Off-Broadway run.
An enthralling glimpse into theatre’s history, we know that this deeply moving performance is one that your group will regret missing. Though performances begin this April, Your Broadway Genius currently has group tickets for Indecent starting as low as $37! We’re sure that audiences will be running to the theatre to see this show. While we love new works, we can’t help but enjoy seeing a classic play or musical re-imagined in a revival. Broadway revivals introduce familiar shows to a brand new audience. Some revivals even stray drastically from the design and staging of their respective original productions. This fall, you can expect to see quite a few classics remounted on Broadway. Here are just a few shows you can get ready to ‘fall’ in love with all over again:
THE CHERRY ORCHARD
Roundabout Theatre Company presents a new production of The Cherry Orchard, Anton Chekhov’s masterpie
ce about a family on the edge of ruin—and a country on the brink of revolution. Simon Godwin (Associate Director at the National Theatre, The Royal Shakespeare Company’s Two Gentlemen of Verona) directs a fresh new adaptation by Tony Award® winner Stephen Karam (The Humans, Sons of the Prophet).
The story of Lyubov Ranevskaya (Academy Award® nominee Diane Lane) and her family’s return to their fabled orchard to forestall its foreclosure, The Cherry Orchard captures a people—and a world—in transition, and presents us with a picture of humanity in all its glorious folly. First produced in Moscow in 1904, The Cherry Orchard still stands as one of the great plays of the modern era. By turns tragic and funny, Roundabout’s new adaptation promises to breathe fresh life into this towering tale.
The Cherry Orchard will begin preview performances on September 15, 2016, and open officially on October 16, 2016.
This is a limited engagement through December 4, 2016 on Broadway at the American Airlines Theatre.
William Finn and James Lapine’s groundbreaking, Tony Award-winning musical Falsettos comes back to Broadway this fall in an all new production from Lincoln Center Theater. Falsettos revolves around the life of a charming, intelligent, neurotic gay man named Marvin, his wife, lover, about-to-be-Bar-Mitzvahed son, their psychiatrist, and the lesbians next door. It’s a hilarious and achingly poignant look at the infinite possibilities that make up a modern family… and a beautiful reminder that love can tell a million stories.
