Earlier this month, Newsday was taken over by School of Rock star Brandon Niederauer. The Long Island newspaper followed the 13-year-old (who has played the role of Zack since the show opened in 2015) for an entire day to see what it’s really like for a Broadway star who also happens to be a kid. Look through this fun feature and see how Brandon and his co-stars balance their homework and chores with “stickin’ it to the man” each night at the Winter Garden Theatre!
Want to take your group to see Brandon rock out on his guitar in School of Rock on Broadway? Tickets start at only $45 for groups of 15+, so call Your Broadway Genius at 877-943-2929 today for the best seats at the lowest prices.
One of the most talked-about new shows of the Broadway season, Come From Away, arrives on Broadway this spring! The breathtaking new musical is currently in previews at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre and is scheduled to open on March 12th. Come From Away tells the remarkable true story of how a small community, notable only for an international airport that was primarily used as a refueling station, came together after the events of September 11, 2001. In a heartbeat, 38 planes with 6,579 passengers were stranded in a remote town in Newfoundland. The locals opened their hearts and homes, hosting this international community of strangers–spurring unexpected camaraderie in extraordinary circumstances.
Much like the subjects of this unconventional musical, Come From Away has had quite the journey to the Great White Way, playing record-breaking engagements in San Diego, Seattle, Washington D.C., Toronto, and even Gander, Newfoundland for two special performances presented to the actual heroes whose actions inspired this incredible show.
To help student groups get the most out of this important and complex story, check out the Come From Away Study Guide. This guide is a fantastic resource on both the background of the specific events of the play, as well as the events of September 11 and the impact they had on the United States and the international community. The resource is the result of collaborative efforts between the TDF Education team, the education team at Seattle Repertory Theatre and the education team at La Jolla Playhouse as well NYC and D.C. educators. The Come From Away Study Guide is an extremely useful tool for teaching students about this difficult topic.

Friedman Theatre on January 19th, will play its final performance on March 12th. Fortunately, there are still group tickets available starting at $30 for groups of 10+.

Legendary Broadway composer Andrew Lloyd Webber made history last week by becoming the first person in over 60 years to have four shows running on Broadway at the same time! Show number four, Sunset Boulevard, opened at the Palace Theatre on Thursday evening. This makes Lloyd Webber the first person to accomplish this feat since renowned writing duo Rodgers and Hammerstein in 1953, the only other time in Broadway history that this situation has occurred.
In this limited revival of the international sensation, Glenn Close reprises her Tony-winning performance as Norma Desmond, the tragic former movie star who struggles to move on from her once-illustrious career. Lloyd Webber’s other three shows currently running on Broadway are The Phantom of the Opera, the record-holding longest running show in Broadway history, which has been enchanting audiences at the Majestic Theatre since 1987; School of Rock, his latest Broadway smash, which opened last year at the Winter Garden Theatre; and the current revival of Cats, the former holder of the record for longest running show on Broadway, which opened last summer at the Neil Simon Theatre. In honor of this momentous occasion, Andrew Lloyd Webber (center) was found posing with characters from all four of his current Broadway shows on Thursday, as shown in the photo above.

Bandstand, the new American musical, begins previews at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre on March 31, with opening night set for April 26. Check out this teaser while you wait for this new, swingin’ musical to arrive on Broadway!
Bandstand brings the swing-fueled, against-all-odds story of singer/songwriter Donny Novitski and his band of mismatched fellow vets brilliantly to the stage.
When a national contest to find America’s next music sensation offers a chance at fame and Hollywood fortune, Donny must whip his boys into fighting shape. Teaming up with a beautiful young war widow as their singer, and playing for every voiceless underdog in a world that has left them behind, they will risk everything to redefine the meaning of victory and sing truth to power.
Directed and choreographed by two-time Tony Award® winner Andy Blankenbuehler (Hamilton, In the Heights), starring two-time Tony nominee Laura Osnes (Cinderella, Bonnie and Clyde), Broadway sensation Corey Cott (Newsies), and Tony winner Beth Leavel (The Drowsy Chaperone), and featuring an explosive original score, Bandstand is a truly American celebration of the men and women whose personal bravery defined a nation.
